Graham D. Ivey, 96, joined his heavenly father on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals.

Born in Edgecombe County, NC to the late Waverly Howard Ivey and Anna Stone Ivey, he was preceded in death by his son, Lt. Cmdr. Stewart Douglas Ivey USN. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Waverly, Oliver, and Bernard Ivey, Margaret Harris, and Joyce Swain.

Mr. Ivey proudly served his country during WWII with the 8th Army Air Force, 9th Complement SQ in Cheddington, England, reaching the rank of Tech. Sgt. He was past commander of the VFW of Candler, Post 9939.

Mr. Ivey was a member of Hominy Baptist Church, and along with his wife, received Volunteer of the Year for Day Stay service. He volunteered at ABCCM and with the Oteen veterans. Serving others was a priority for Mr. Ivey.

Graham retired from Pierce Young Angel Company and worked at the NC Farmer's Market until he was 87. One of his greatest enjoyments was his Sunday dinners at the "chicken place," Zaxby's Exit 44. He enjoyed life and was witty, with a great sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Ward Ivey; daughter, Susan Ivey Smith (Jim); step-son, Carol Redmon (Linda); grandson, James Lee Smith, and granddaughter, Bridgett Smith Helm (Daniel); step-grandson, Charles Lee Redmon; two step-granddaughters; great-grandson, Luke Daniel Helm; sister, Ruth M. Mobley; brother, James L. Ivey; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Hominy Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the NC Honor Guard.
