When George's parents married in Grand Haven, 19 Jun 1879, Fred was 23 and Anna 17. They were both living in Grand Haven at the time after both immigrating from the Netherlands. Unfortunately, George's mother died in Grand Haven at age 28y 3m 12d in Childbirth on 2 Apr 1890 when he was just 2 1/2 yrs old.
George's father remarried the following year on 22 Oct 1891 to Kate Nijsen Werkman, who was age 35, and she became the step mother to him and his siblings, Margaret, Peter, Dick and Henry, who was just a newborn when their mother Anna died.
