Pete J. Laxague was born in Eagleville, November 7, 1907 to Mr. And Mrs. John Laxague. He attended the Eagleville Elementary School and the Surprise Valley Union High School, graduating with the class of 1927. 1931 Pete was united in marriage to Beuna Jones and to them were born three sons, William D., Buddy M., and Ronald R. Laxague. Buena passed away in 1935. In the early 1940’s Pete was married to Florence Martin.

Pete’s first venture to business was barbering and he followed this profession for a number of years. During these years he also operated the Telephone Exchange in Cedarville and in partnership for a time with Albert Erramouspe in the “Square Deal Fountain” now known as the “Kosy Korner”.

In 1938 he was elected supervisor of District No. 2 of Modoc County and served in this capacity for 16 years. While supervisor he was instrumental in getting the farm to market road from Fort Bidwell to Eagleville. In getting the streets of Cedarville a paved and curbing in. In getting the street markers put up and in opening the airport north of town. Through his efforts the new elementary school was built and the branch of the Modoc Medical Center in Cedarville was constructed and opened for use.

In 1950 he bought the Hartlerode mill in Cedarville and the following year he rebuilt and extended the plant, adding in 1954 the planer. He operated the Laxague Lumber Mill until poor health forced him to retire in 1962 and his three sons bought the mill and took over the management.

Pete and his wife, Florence, moved to Reno where they made their home until his death. Pete passed away at his home on May 1st, 1969.
