T.F. "Sarge" Graves, 87, of the Ledford community, died 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2006, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Darrell Ford officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post No. 167 of Harrisburg and American Legion Post No. 364 of Carrier Mills. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at the funeral home with Masonic Rites 7:30 p.m.

He was born July 20, 1919, in Carrier Mills to the late Thomas and Alice (Manier) Graves. On Dec. 13, 1952, he married the former Helen Deaton Killman, who survives.


He was employed by the Sahara Coal Company for 44 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of the Ledford Baptist Church; a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific; a member of the Blazing Star Lodge No. 458 in Carrier Mills and a 32nd Degree Mason for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by five children, Tom (Melba) Killman of Creal Springs, Jerry (Sheila) Killman of Harrisburg, Bonnie (Bud) Hall of Bloomington, Beverly Slusher of Harrisburg and Gary (Kim) Graves of Carrier Mills; nine grandchildren, Marcia (Rick) Hilliard of Marion, Roy Killman of Creal Springs, Tammy (Joe) Maida of Naperville, Justin (Jennifer) Graves of Marion, Tera (Scott) Nafziger of Bloomington, Terry Deno of Aurora, Tim (Caree) Slusher of San Antonio, Texas, Ryan (Amber) Hall of Marion and Seth Graves of Carrier Mills; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by a brother, Charlie Graves.

He was a devout Christian, devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will always remain in our hearts.
