Clyde S. 'Mickey' McWilliams, 169 Chestnut St., Wheatland, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Monday (7-11-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 93.

Mr. McWilliams was born May 15, 1918 in Charleston a son of James and Bessie McWilliams.

He was a1937 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage, and served with the US Merchant Marines during WW II in the European Theater. 'Junior', as he was known at work, retired in 1981 as a wireman from the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was employed for 42 years. He then worked for Wheaton Dry Cleaners for five years as a driver. Earlier in his life, Mr. McWilliams grew Christmas trees from saplings on five acres of property in Hermitage for many years and sold them at the holidays.

He was a charter member of Charleston United Methodist Church. Mickey was an avid gardener and liked to watch WWF (World Wrestling Federation) on television. He was a family man who enjoyed time with his children fishing and attending car races at Mercer and Sharon Speedways.

His wife, the former Marguerite A. Vassen, whom he married June 20, 1945, passed away December 14, 1998.

Surviving are: two daughters, Karen S. Napier and her husband 'Red', Wheatland; and Karlyn H. Ashby and her husband George, with whom he lived for the past 5 and1/2 years in Wheatland; two sons, Stanley K. McWilliams and his wife Gloria, Albuquerque, NM; and James R. McWilliams, Reynolds; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Vassen, Mercer and formerly of West Middlesex.

Besides his wife, Mickey was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Anderson. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Charleston United Methodist Church, 1156 Greenfield Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday (7-14-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
