A native of Springfield, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Martha Key Ellery and John H. Railey Sr.
He was a graduate of Lincoln Institute, class of 1962.
Following graduation , he attended trade school and learned the trades of plumbing and electricity .
He entered the military , joining the U.S. Army Natural Guard of Kentucky.
He retired from the National Guard as a staff drill sergeant after 24 years of service.
He then worked for General Electric Company on the assembly line.
He worked for Sam Cardwell Construction Company , pouring concrete .
He was supervisor over the paint line at Shelby Industries and had most recently worked for the City of Shelbyville in the Department of Public Works.
In his leisure time , he enjoyed fishing , hunting , singing and dancing .
As a youngsters, he and his brothers had a band where he was the lead singer.
He also trained horses as a young man for Murray Armstrong and was well known as a fast tobacco cutter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph P. Railey.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara, children, Velesia,
Tonya, Barbie, John C. , Michael, BeLinda, and Kevin; sister, Mary , brothers, Kenneth and Steve; aunts, Ann and Dorothy, uncles, Alfonzo and George, 11 grandchildren , one great-grandson and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
