Daughter of Sam and Mamie Rashid of Fort Madison, Iowa. Sister to Oscar and Baddia. As a young adult she sought to extend her education. She waved goodbye to Iowa and headed to Washington, DC. She quickly landed jobs at the U.S. Treasury Department. Later, career changes took her to the DoD, Department of Justice and the NIH. About this time she met a young man from Massachusetts - John Abood. Elizabeth and John married in 1953 and they purchased a home in Bethesda, Maryland. Their children and family were the focus of their life together.

Elizabeth enjoyed her life. She relished the many relationship roles she filled - daughter; sister (Oscar and Baddia); niece to many; friend to many; wife (John Abood - 33 years); mother; mother-in-law; great-grandmother; aunt to 17 nieces and nephews; volunteer extraordinaire to the community.

Her legacy to her family is her strength of character and independence. She developed an inner strength during her life. She showed each of us, by her example, how to live strong, with dignity.

Family and friends may visit with her family at the Murphy Funeral Home, Falls Church, Virginia on Sunday, June 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. Mass will be held at the Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia on Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. Services at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia will follow the Mass. The family welcomes family and friends to her home immediately following interment.

Elizabeth enjoyed supporting ALSAC''s Saint Jude Children''s Research Hospital. https://stjude.org/
