Helon was born in the Sugar Grove area of Butler County, Kentucky, and grew up there. She married Andrew J Kuykendall on 13 July 1865 at the age of 22. They moved from Morgantown to Centerville, Neosho, Kansas and were living there by 1872. Records also show her first name as being Helen and Hellen.

They moved to a farm in Coldwater Township, Grant County, Oklahoma about 1878 and lived there for the rest of their lives. Coldwater used to be about six miles northeast of Nash.

Helon and Andrew had nine children together:

She died in Anthony, Harper County and was buried on 8 February 1921.
