Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by Dubuque Marine Corps League. The Hoffmann- Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Conwell was employed at the former Dubuque Packing Company for 30 years, retiring in 1979 as sales manager.
He was born on June 4, 1925, in Goodell, Iowa, son of Owen F. and Marie (Foley) Conwell. He married K. Janet Weber on Oct. 29, 1949, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church; she preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 1999.
He graduated from Loras College.
He was in the Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II.
Maurice was an avid golfer, and a Notre Dame and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He did a lot of volunteer work, including Junior Achievement and the Clarke Golf Classic, for which he was very proud.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker, the Dubuque Golf and Country Club and the Association of Retired P.T. Navy Veterans.
Surviving are a son, David (Angela) Conwell, of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Susan (Mike) Snuttjer, of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandsons, Kyle Snuttjer, of West Des Moines, and Ron (Ariane) Rinker, of Queen Creek, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Samantha Snuttjer, of West Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sons; and a brother, Frank.
