JAMES PALMER MORLEY
Death brought sweet release Thursday morning Feb. 3, 1938 to a tired sufferer when the soul of James P. Morley passed on. The end came peacefully at about six a.m. after nearly a year of suffering from Bright's disease and complications. For the past six months he had been confined to the house and has been seriously ill for the week preceding death.
Mr. Morley was born at Mildenhall, Suffolk, England May 13, 1850 and was therefore 87 years old when called to his reward. He was 21 years of age when he came to America. Illinois was his home at first, then he went to Kansas where he lived until about 25 years ago when he came to Texas. On Jan. 14, 1878 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Jane Jones in Abilene, Kansas. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls, all of whom are still living.
For many years Mr. Morley was engaged in extensive farming and ranching operations near Vienna, but moved to Hallettsville about a year ago. He was converted and became a member of the Brethren of Christ a number of years ago and lived a consistent Christian life, being known as a good honest man by all of his friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his good wife and the following children: Walter Morley, Longford, Kans; Mrs. Emily Bloomer, Seattle, Wash.; Arthur Morley, Santa Cruz, Cal.; Ross Morley, Albany, Ore.; Mrs. Bertha McFadden, Manson, Wash.; W. A. Morley and Mrs. Albert Davenport of Hallettsville. Four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death, but four sisters are still living, namely; Mrs. Liza Chase, Abilene, Kans.; Mrs. Maria Girvan, LaSalle, Col.; Mrs. Harmon Snook, Salem, Ore.; and Mrs. George Mourer, Eugene, Ore.
Funeral services will be held at the home in Northeast end at 1 p.m. Saturday after which burial will take place in the Willow Creek Cemetery at Vienna. Rev. J. T. King will have charge of the services at both home and grave.
Mr. Morley left a host of friends who grieve to hear of his passing. He was by nature of a jovial temperament and had a kindly word for all. The New Era-Herald joins with them in offering sincere sympathy to the family in their dark hour.
