GRAYBILL, BERNICE HOLMES, 93, widow of Charles Grant Graybill, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Crestview Nursing Home in Shelbyville. She is survived by stepdaughter, Charlotte Hall (Earl); and a stepson, J. L. Graybill (Beverlee), both of Nicholasville; as well as a former daughter- in-law, Margaret Catherine Meehan Graybill of Atlanta, GA; and a niece, Cheryl Heath (Ed) of Georgetown, IN. Also surviving are eight step-grandchildren and 18 step-great- grandchildren; as well as six step-great-great- grandchildren. In addition, step-niece and nephew, Bobby Ann Rose and John Graybill, both of Winchester, also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Montgomery of Shelbyville; two other sisters and a brother; a step-granddaughter; and a step-great- grandson. Mrs. Graybill was born in Henry Co., but has been a long-time resident of Shelbyville. She was very active in civic affairs and worked for 41 years as a nurse at the former King's Daughter Hospital until she retired in 1977. Her nurses' training was received at the University of Louisville. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville as well as being a charter member of the Shelbyville Business and Professional Women's Association. Additionally, she was an active member of the Shelbyville Chapter 170 of the Order of the Eastern Star, rising to the position of Deputy Grand Matron. As a continued effort to contribute to the betterment of medical care, Mrs. Graybill has chosen to donate her body to the University of Louisville. Thus, there will be no visitation but instead a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006 in the chapel of Shannon Funeral Home of Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Graybill has requested that donations be made to Kosair Charities, 982 Eastern Parkway, P.O. Box 37370, Louisville, KY 40233-7370, or the Jewish Hospital Shelbyville Foundation, 727 Hospital Drive, Shelbyville, KY 40065.
