William was my great-grandfather. He was raised in north central Iowa and farmed in the Goldfield, Iowa area until early 1930's. He was the son of Robert A. Donelson and Hester E. Bennett Donelson.
He married Ellen Natalia Svensson November 27, 1914 in Faribault, Minnesota. They were parents of four daughters: Margaret, Mildred, Gladys and Verna.

Margaret married Dale Ellsworth, he was killed in 1943 during the war. She had two children with Dale, David and Patricia.

Mildred was married to Harley Hansen and lived in Valentine, Nebraska. They were parents of Mary Ellen and Georgia.

Gladys married Milo Christopherson in December 1939. They were parents of five children: Al, Diane, JoAnn, Nancy and Jeff.

Verna married Mitch Ivanovich and lived in California. They were parents of Arlene, Mike and Mary.

****William's mother, Hester, was born in or near Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa on June 25, 1866. She was the daughter of Thomas Bennett and Anna Mary Hindal. She married Robert A. Donelson on December 21, 1884 in Webster County, Iowa. The couple settled near Goldfield, Iowa and farmed and raised their family of seven children. Their children are William Curtis, Bessie Mabel, Earl Harry, George Edwin, Lee Robert, Angelina Bartinea, and June Iris.
After Robert Donelson passed away, she moved to Boone, Boone County, Iowa with her daughter June. Census records from 1920 revealed this information. Sometime after this census she married Anton Mezek and possibly lived in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, where Anton lived a majority of his life, working in the coal mines. This is possibly where June met her husband, Mike Davich, as they lived in this same area and raised their family.
A recently discovered death certificate for Hester "Hettie" Mezek revealed that she passed away in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa on May 29, 1935. She had cancer. Her daughter, Angelina Cornish, was the informant on the certificate. Anton was shown as her husband. Another interesting "fact" from this certificate is her birth date, the month and day are correct but the year is shown as 1881. She was born in 1866. This leads to many questions as to why the fifteen year difference. No burial location is noted on the certificate.
