Mildred Edwards Adkins, age 92, formerly of Marion, NC, passed away March 4, 2018. A native of Yancey County, she was born on June 6, 1925 to the late Emory and Minnie Adkins Edwards. Mrs. Adkins was a resident of Roxboro, NC for eight years prior to her death. She was a lifelong homemaker whose greatest joy was being with and taking care of her family. A wonderful Godly mother, she exemplified Christian living not only to her children but to all who knew and loved her and she will be dearly missed. She has gone to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior and family members who passed on before her. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Brown Adkins, sons Keith Daniel Adkins and James Michael Adkins, and a son-in-law, Emmit Dwight Hurdle.
Those left to remember her loving and generous ways are two daughters, Patricia Adkins Hurdle of Roxboro and Phillis Evans (Stephen) of Glouchester, VA; four grandchildren, Stephen Evans Jr., Karen Burden Rimmer (Brian), Kimberly Evans Galvan (Dean), and William Christopher Adkins (Karen); and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Creed Edwards (Mamie) of Burnsville and Homer Edwards (Carolyn) of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate her life and home-going will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Brother Bill Mitchell officiating. The family will be available to receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Coy. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Flowers are appreciated and memorials may be made to the Roxboro Health and Rehabilitation Feathers and Fins account at 901 Ridge Road, Roxboro, NC 27573.
