Sarah Faith (Price) High Barnebey
October 7, 1934 ~ April 28, 2016

Sarah Faith Barnebey of Bradenton, FL and Blowing Rock, NC, former First Lady of Miami, writer, civic leader, devoted wife and mother, died April 28th at her Bradenton home after an extended illness. She was 81.

Mrs. Barnebey, wife of former Tropicana Products Inc. Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Barnebey and widow of former Miami Mayor Robert King High, was a national freelance columnist, publishing hundreds of articles that reflected her humor, wit, spirit, wisdom and her love for the Great Smoky Mountains of her adopted home state, North Carolina.

Her articles appeared regularly in the Bradenton Herald during the 1990s, and she was creating an anthology of that work when she became ill eight years ago.

She also authored Integrity Is the Issue, a recounting of her first husband's campaign life as mayor of Miami and his subsequent bids for governor before his death in 1967.

Widowed at 32 with six young children, she met Mr. Barnebey in Bradenton in 1968, and married in 1969.

She relocated to Bradenton where Mr. Barnebey's three children lived with their mother. In later years, she would describe her husband as "the love of my life." As an example of love that transcends the marital vows, Mr. Barnebey served as her full-time caretaker in their home upon the onset of her illness.

"Sarah Faith" was known to all as Faith, a name that aptly suited the spirit of her life. Her most treasured Bible verse was Deuteronomy 31:6, "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee." These words were the foundation of her life.

She influenced many through the years as a dedicated Bible study leader and shared her spiritual strength to those with whom she came in contact.

Mrs. Barnebey was a member of the Board of Directors of The Ringling Museum of Art; member and past president of the Coral Gables Junior Women's Club; member of the Junior League of Manatee County, and member of the Bradenton Country Club and The Blowing Rock Country Club. In addition to writing, her other passions included interior design, for which she earned a license; travel and bridge.

Born Oct. 7, 1934, in Houston, TX, she grew up in Miami and graduated from Coral Gables High School as cheerleader and senior class treasurer.

She attended Brenau College for Women in Gainesville, GA, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

She worshiped at First Baptist Church of Bradenton for 45 years, First Baptist Church of Blowing Rock for 25 years, and Flagler Street Baptist Church of Miami for 12 years. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years in both Bradenton and Blowing Rock.

Surviving are her husband, Ken; six children: Robert King High Jr. (Ruth Ann) and Holiday High, both of Tallahassee; Virginia (Cindy) Bunton, Ormond Beach; Valerie Bogos, Tampa; Bonnie McDonald (John), Whispering Pines, NC, and Susan High, Bradenton; two step-children, Mark Barnebey (Marianne) of Bradenton; and Kendra Whitehead (Brent), of Terra Ceia.

Also 15 grandchildren: Robert High, Jennifer (Jenny) High, Brittany Meeks, Sarah Bunton-Lauer, Amy Bunton, Kristina Bogos, Gregory Bogos, Ryan McDonald, Kathleen (Katie) McDonald, Matthew Barnebey, Christopher Barnebey, Jared Whitehead, Karys Mawyer, Brianne (Bri) Barnett and William (Trey) Masel, III; and three great-grandchildren: Maximilian (Max) Lauer, Lilliana (Lily) Whitehead and William (Liam) Masel, IV.

She is predeceased by stepdaughter, Laurel Young, and her parents, Sam and Betty Price of Greenville, SC.

The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Cora Bovell and Tammy Johnston for their daily dedication to Faith.

Visitation services for family and friends will be held Saturday, May 14th, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the chapel of Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton, FL 34205.

Graveside Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock, NC.
