Addie "Ada" or "Abbie" Phillips was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. She first marries John Jennings of Nova Scotia, Canada. He dies in 1886. That same year, she marries Frederick " Fred" Jarvis Carver 28 Jan 1886. She is listed with the maiden surname of Phillips in the marriage record of Vinalhaven, Maine. By the 1900 Census of Vinalhaven, Maine this couple is shown to have no natural children. (See actual Census record). However, in looking closely at the actual Census record, we find they now have an ADOPTED child. She is shown as Margaret "Maggie" Francis Carver, now 13 years old (born Oct 1887), in this Census. It appears now that Addie Louise (Phillips) Jennings was pregnant with Margaret "Maggie" Francis Jennings at the time of her first husbands death. It is possible once she gave birth to Maggie the toddler then was raised by her grandparents until she was 9. We do know because of the 1900 Census that Maggie came to the United States in 1896 so it appears she was adopted by Fred Jarvis Carver (as head of household in 1900). Both of her natural parents are shown to have been born in Nova Scotia, Canada. She goes by the Carver surname in her first marriage (to Walter B Clark). But then, she is also shown to have the maiden name of Jennings in another marriage record from Maine of the exact same date and year. After the death of Walter B Clark, Maggie marries again, this time to Albert Tibbetts Adams. They have a son.
