ORINDA -- Katherine Foster Calderwood of Orinda, passed away on Saturday, September 1, at the age of 100. Katherine was born in San Francisco on April 3, 1912.

She worked as Elizabeth Arden's representative at I. Magnin during the 1930's, where she waited on such notables as Charlie Chaplin and William Randolph Hearst.

In 1940, she married Neil Calderwood, of Vinalhaven, Maine. The Calderwood family moved to Orinda in 1951. Katherine was a wonderful, warm, vibrant person, charming and sympathetic to all.

After raising three boys in Orinda, she went back to college to pursue her education. She loved art, especially stained glass; she sold one of her pieces as far away as Tokyo.

She had many friends all her life, one of whom said, "She always makes you feel like a million bucks." In 2002, she celebrated her 90th birthday with a week in New York City with her son John.

At the age of 96, she could still dance the Charleston at her granddaughter's wedding.

Katherine is survived by her sister, Louise La Muth, of San Francisco; three sons, John, of Oakland, Jamie, of Benicia, and Bruce of Murphys; and two grandchildren, Claire and Corey.
