Laura Taylor, 95, of Hudson, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Heritage of Hudson in Hudson, OH.

She was born October 6, 1920 in the Village of Richwood, Union County, Ohio to Elmer Everett and Josephine (Johnson) Henrey. She married Walter M. Hilbinger, a farmer and welder in the steel industry, in 1941 and eventually they made their home in Braceville Township in Trumbull County.
A daughter, Nicole Diane, was born in 1942 and they lived a quiet Midwestern farming life during the immediate post-war period. Nicki went to college, married her middle school sweetheart and started her own family - which was a renewal of life of sorts for Laura and Walter.

Laura and Walter cherished opportunities to have their grandsons stay with them on their farm (the free farm labor was a bonus) as they were growing up.
World travelers, Laura and Walter insisted on taking their grandsons on a tour of Europe. The proud grandparents were also constant spectators at elementary and middle school sporting events until Walter died from complications following a farm accident in 1979.
Laura and Walter were members of the Braceville Christian Church and were very active in the community where Walter was a township trustee and a volunteer fireman. Laura then began spending winters close to family in Florida where she was a member of the Chancey Road Christian Church outside of Zephyrhills, Florida.

Laura’s only child, Nicki, predeceased her in 2006. Laura was very proud that Nicki was known as a pioneer in inclusion philosophy and techniques for special education students.
A foundation, the Nicki’s Gift Foundation, was created in honor of Laura’s daughter to provide scholarships for special education students to pursue post-secondary education and to provide teacher grants.

Laura was eventually cornered by a widower and fellow snowbird at her Zephyrhills, Florida mobile home park. Laura and Fred F. Taylor from Grayling Michigan were married in 1994 and spent summers at Fred’s Higgin’s Lake cabin in Roscommon, Michigan where they received visits from some of Laura’s great grandchildren from Hudson. Fred passed away in 2001.

She is survived by grandsons, Rick (Camala) Nye of Hudson and Randy (Karen) Nye of Hudson; great grandchildren, John Christopher Nye of Los Angeles, CA, Gene Alexander Nye of Los Angeles, CA, Randall Cory Nye of Los Angeles, CA, Kiernan Zachary Nye of Hudson, Madison Tyler Nye of Columbus, Spenser Bailey Nye of Hudson, and Lincoln Byers Nye of Hudson; and son-in-law, John Buel Nye of St. Petersburg, FL. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Everett Erwin Henrey, who died in 1973.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30th at Braceville Center Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Witt officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Nicki’s Gift Foundation located at 7941 Ravenna Road, Hudson Ohio 44236. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
