Lillian Marie Overmyer, 95, of Montrose, formerly of Copemish, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc. She was born February 25, 1918, in Bay County, Michigan, the daughter of Angus and Martha (Johnroe) Metevia. [Found listing as ...Emil Angus Metevia and Martha Metevia (born Johnroe)]. (In Marie's later years, her sister, Mable, lived near at Copemish, MI. A brother, Glenn, had drowned as a teenager.)

Marie moved to Copemish in 1956 and was a life member of the American Legion Read-Osborne Post #531 in Copemish, the AmVets Post 120 in Mesick, and the Marilla Senior’s Club. Marie loved to write children’s stories and had published works in books and magazines.

During World War II, Marie worked in the factories. Later, she worked at Setwell Company in Traverse City until her retirement in 1971. Marie also helped her 20 foster children, in addition to her own family. In her spare time, Marie enjoyed traveling, crocheting, reading, cooking, and gardening.

Marie is survived by: 2 children, Bruce (Hikmet) Overmyer Jr. of Detour Village, and Kathleen Wagner of Montrose; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mabel Cole of Copemish; 4 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arlene Kline of Davison, Paul (Dawn) Overmyer of Fenton, Jack Overmyer of Flint, and Marjorie Rich of Grand Blanc; her daughters-in-law, Joyce Overmyer of Mesick and Betty Overmyer of Eaton Rapids; 2 ex-daughters-in-law, Marilyn Overmyer of Traverse City and Eva Overmyer of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews.

On October 26, 1934, in Flint, Marie married Bruce D. Overmyer who preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by: her daughter, Gale Melton; her sons, Gerald Overmyer and Leonard Overmyer; 4 grandchildren, Daniel Vickers, Randolph Schmitzer, Shannon Overmyer, and Pamela Walden; 1 brother, John Metevia; her sister, Alma Metevia in infancy; her sister-in-law, Arlene Kline; and her brother-in-law, Jack Overmyer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home, in Kaleva, with Dr. Paul S. Hammer officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM at the Terwilliger Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Cleon Township Cemetery in Copemish.
