Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Haddock, wife of James L. Haddock, died at her home in Rixford community Sunday morning about 3 o'clock after a lingering and painful illness of many months, death coming as a welcome release from suffering. Funeral services were conducted at Antioch Baptist Church Monday morning at 10 o'clock, by her pastor, Rev. T.T. Law, and were largely attended by relatives and friends, many coming from a distance to pay this last tribute of love and respect to her who had endeared herself to them through many years of pleasant association. The wealth of beautiful flowers which covered her casket bore silent testimony to the esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Haddock was seventy-two years of age last November, and for the greater part of her life had lived in this county (Suwannee), rearing a family and taking her place in the community life as long as her health permitted. She was much loved by her neighbors and friends, being of a genial, happy disposition, and her death will be generally regretted. Mrs. Haddock is survived by her husband, two sons, Eldon C. Haddock of Live Oak; Worth Haddock of Eastman, Georgia, Mrs. G.R. Creekmore, Brooksville; Mrs. O.H. Byrd, Jacksonville; and Mrs. R.V. Ballard of Miami; also two brothers, Messrs. John Ratliff of Blackshear, Georgia and Gilford Ratliff, Argyle, Georgia, a sister, Mrs. Asa Timmerman of Stockton, Georgia, all of whom were present at the funeral. Among others attending from a distance were Mrs. John Ratliff, Mrs.Gilford Ratliff, Mrs. Charles Knowles, Mrs. Barney Wetherington and Oscar Ratliff of Jasper; nieces and nephews of the deceased; a niece, Miss Daisey Ratliff of Valdosta, Dr. Creekmore of Brooksville, Mrs. Monroe Sparks and daughter of Thomasville, Georgia and numerous friends from Thomasville and Jacksonville whose names we were unable to learn.
