William Thad McCall, 72, of the Silversteen community, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Flemming J. McCall and Grace Galloway McCall. He was also preceded in death by his son, Wesley Chad McCall; sister, Lorena McCall; and brothers, Billy Ray McCall and Randy McCall.

He worked for 53 years at the former NASA Tracking Station, which is now P.A.R.I. in Rosman. He was the only employee there to work for all of the operating agencies, NASA, the Department of Defense, the U.S. Forest Service and P.A.R.I.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He loved bluegrass music and played the guitar and banjo and taught his sons and grandsons how to play.

He loved NASCAR.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Mary Hogsed McCall; son, Warren Brad McCall and wife, Yanah, of Silversteen; grandsons, Dylan and Marley McCall; sisters, Jean Hooper and husband, Bascom, of East Fork, Melba McCall, of Hendersonville and Donnie Hall and husband, Leslie, of Silversteen; brothers, Rev. James "Buster" McCall and wife, Becky, of Balsam Grove, Ted McCall and wife, Judy, of Silversteen, and Ronnie McCall, of Silversteen.

A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016, at McCall Cemetery with Rev. Buster McCall, Ted McCall and Rev. Ray Von Galloway officiating.

Military rites were conducted by the Honor Guard of Transylvania County Veterans.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life Elizabeth House, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
