Walter Earl Kirk, 57, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at his home on Franklin Street in Lawrenceburg. Kirk was a follower of Christ who exemplified what it means to put others first and keep his focus on what truly matters. His heart was full of love for his fellow man and his animals. He was always surrounded by spoiled dogs and great friends. He had a golden sense of humor and a smile that made you feel right at home. His kind and gentle nature made him a person who all would seek in difficult times. Those who knew Walter will miss him dearly. He was a great friend to all and a truly special man.

He dedicated his working life to making schools an inviting and safe place for children to learn and grow. He was a dedicated professional who worked with his colleagues to ensure that each school they touched was a better place when he left it. Kirk worked with the Kentucky Education Support Personnel Association to ensure that this work would touch the lives of all students in public education. He brought this work to our community when he joined the Anderson County Public School system, from which he retired.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Lisa Petrey-Kirk, whom he loved deeply and always had a kind word for; two daughters, Sandy and Christina, and his grandchildren Crystal and Jeremy, in whom he had immense pride. The family gives special thanks to Jessica and Heather Harris, who helped care for Walter and always brought a smile to his face.

Walter was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Las Cruces, N.M., son of the late Earl Henry and Betty Wilson Kirk. He moved to Kentucky as a child and lived in the Lawrenceburg area for the remainder of his life.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery, where he hoped they will soon be planting trees. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Anderson Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 494, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
