At his request, Mr. Akins was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Friday August 7, 2015 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Akins was born in Brooks County on April 5, 1943 to the late Grady George and Ophelia Sims Atkins and had lived in Worth County for the last 50 years. He was formerly employed with Firestone and later years was known as the Fence Man. Mr. Akins was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed socializing, his gun collection and was an outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife Glenda McDonald Akins of Sylvester; son, Mark Lewis (Melissa) of Kennesaw; brothers, Terry Akins (Jane) and Randy Akins (Neila Ellis) all of Sylvester; grandson, Glen Lewis of Kennesaw.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Taylor and a brother, George Akins.
