ELIZABETH NEEL ALLEN

Elizabeth Allen, known as Libby to many, was born and raised in Ceres, Virginia. She married Edwin B. Allen on January 19, 1949 and moved to Washington, DC to begin their life together. Throughout her part-time working career she served as a nurse's aide in various medical offices and also as a secretary for the Virginia State Police. However, her primary responsibility was raising two children, Regina and Richard, which she did superbly with love while instilling a strong sense of gratitude and respect for others.

After the passing of her husband, she relocated to Modesto, California to live her family. After far too short a period of time, her beloved Gina succumbed to cancer and Libby returned to the Northern Virginia area to live near family, many friends and her church.

Libby was a devoted and active member of Fairfax United Methodist Church since 1975. She served in various capacities in the UMW, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Christen Encounters class and the Angel Consignment sales. Her church was the cornerstone of her life and she devoted many hours of dedicated service to countless church causes.

She remained active in her independent living community by organizing activities for the residents and leading fundraising efforts. She frequently offered to assist residents without transportation by driving them to medical appointments and grocery shopping. She also met her best "Buddy", and they loved to spend time exchanging dinners, shopping at the Dollar Store and just paling around.

Libby should be remembered as a loving wife and mother, a devoted grandmother to six, and great- grandmother to ten. She lived her life with grace and dignity. We will never forget her and will greatly miss her loving presence.

The family will receive friends at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22032 on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Fairfax United Methodist Church, 10300 Stratford Avenue, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Fairfax Memorial Park is private.
