Mickey was born in Louisville to James and Ann Patterson on October 18, 1960. He grew up in Crescent Hill, played football at Atherton High School and graduated in 1978. Mickey received a degree in journalism from the University Of Kentucky and remained a loyal Wildcat fan throughout his life. Following college, Mickey worked as Sports Editor for the Oldham County ERA and the Shelby County Sentinel News, repeatedly winning honors for his writing and photography from the Kentucky Association. He was also a contributions sports writer for the the Courier Journal.
Mickey was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, Billy and sister, LuAnn. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and daughter Claire.
