William Riley Brown, 72, of Belle, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with Charley Co. 15TC, First Calvary, at An Khe. Bill was a proud recipient of a Purple Heart. After graduating from Morris Harvey College, Bill taught social studies at Stonewall Jackson and South Charleston High Schools before taking a position with E.I. DuPont, Belle Works, retiring after 25 years of service.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Josephine Brown, and a sister, Deloris Fay Calvert.

Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruth Siders Brown; sons, Michael and wife, Stephanie, of Locust Grove, Va., and Mark and wife, Mary, of Charleston; grandchildren, Eleanor and Anderson Brown; sisters, Grace Maxine Brown of Winifrede, Claris (Charles) Green of Essex, Md., and Marguerite (Charles) Bader of Simi, Calif.; brother, Edward (Kay) Brown of Winifrede; and brother-in-law, William Calvert of Winifrede.

The funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, March 10, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Celebrant HR Whittington officiating. The interment will follow the service at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.

Family and friends will gather for a visitation one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
