She was the eldest child of Roscoe and Catherine Monroe Kinlaw, born on November 23, 1926 in Robeson County. Christine was a lifelong resident of Lumberton and attended secretarial school in Charlotte. She worked as a secretary for the Lumberton City Schools and the Public Schools of Robeson County.
Her home and church were the centers of her life. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and played the piano for the Fellowship Class and for many events in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Donna B. Smith, and her sister, Bennie Lee Cook.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, William Thomas "Tom" Barker, of the home, her son, William T. Barker, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Raleigh, and four grandchildren, Chonda Smith, of Asheville, Will Barker and wife, Megan, John Barker, and Blair Barker, all of Raleigh
Funeral Service were held at 2pm, Monday, June 9, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Lumberton NC, officiated by Dr. David Elks. The Family received friends immediately following service in the church parlor.
