On January 16 1957, Margaret lost her father, husband, and 11 year old son to a gas line explosion in West Peoria. A forth person, Perry Traub, who ran the grocery store, also perished. Margaret was at Choir practice. Her father's wife (step-mother) Opal and youngest son Kenneth were on the premises and were injured.
Margaret & son Kenneth later moved to Connecticut, (possibly at different times) where Margaret passed.
