Richard M. Hershberger, 90, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2016. He was born on November 7, 1925, in Clendenin, the son of the late Lewis H. Hershberger and Marie Hensley (Hershberger) Hess.
Richard was a military veteran for the US Marine Corps, where he served in WWII and the Korean War. Richard retired from WV State Police, Communications in South Charleston, WV. He was a member of Beni Kedem Shriners, Scottish Rite, Charleston Lodge #153, Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Marine Corps League 947, and Devil Dawg Pound 343.
His memory will be cherished by his devoted wife of 63 years, Margaret O'Brien Hershberger; son, Jim Hershberger of Charleston; grandchildren, Daniel (Christee) Hershberger of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Jordan Marie (Casey) Cantrell of Charleston, Jared (Tarah) Hershberger of Orlando, Fla.; great-grandson, Gideon James Hershberger; Richard's special cousins, Rick Hensley and Sue Thomas.
The family would like to thank the kind staff at Hubbard Hospice House for their excellent care for Richard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church, 2626 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, WV 25302.
