She was a native of Buncombe County and lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Clark Sams and was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore D. McCarter, who died in 2000. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. Mrs. McCarter was of the Baptist denomination.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Simpson and her husband, Jimmy, and Mary Burrell and her husband, Gary, all of Canton; son, Arthur McCarter and his wife, Ann, of Canton; sister, Eva Clark of Alabama; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services. The Rev. Bobby Winebarger Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road.
