Virgil A. Klein, 73, of LaGrange, died Thursday, November 20, 2003. He was born July 5, 1930 in Gonzales County to the late Adolph Sam and Esther Weiss Klein. He was an Army Veteran serving during 1952-1954. He worked for GTE Southwest for 45 years and was named "Employee of the Year" at GTE Southwest in 1980. He married Barbara Pirkle Klein on May 25, 1957 in Gatesville, Texas.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men, where he served as a Sunday school superintendent and youth leader. He was also a member of the LaGrange Booster Club and was active as a Scout Master in the Boy Scouts and also served as a youth leader.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Brenda Wein and husband Pat of LaGrange; two sons, Samuel Klein and wife Lynn of Kempner and David Klein of Corpus Christi; one sister, Frances Meinen of Temple; mother-in-law, Grace Pirkle of Gonzales; a special sister-in-law, Tommie Eichman of Shiner; special aunt, Ida Pirkle of Gonzales; grandchildren, C. J., Brandi and Margaret Klein of Kempner, Daniel and Timmy Klein of Austin, Colin Basquette of LaGrange, Emily and Alex Klein of Corpus Christi, Craig, Rebecca, Sara, Michelle and Michael Wein; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Robbins officiating. Burial followed in the LaGrange City Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the donor's choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home of LaGrange.
