Susanna had 4 children by a first marriage to a man with the last name Lane. She was a widow when she met her second husband, Jacob Spittler. Shortly after marrying Jacob they settled in Berkeley Co., Va (now West Virginia) on a 68 acre farm. In 1792 they moved to Rockingham Co., VA and sold the first farm. On April 22, 1792 they purchased 164 acres on Looney Creek, a branch of the James River 5 miles from Fincastle, Virgina, in Botatourt County. They died at the farm and were laid to rest there; the stones have weathered and are unreadable. Upon Jacob's death, the farm was sold for $12,000 to their oldest son, Joseph, on May 30, 1828, which he then managed until 1836 when he moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio.
Jacob and Susanna had seven children:
Joseph, Jacob, Elizabeth, John, Magdalena, Samuel and Anna.
