Wayne Holcombe, age 94, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Laurels of Summit Ridge in Asheville, N. C.

Wayne was born in Madison County on May 30, 1912 and was a son of the late Joe and Lydia Banks Holcombe.

He retired from Southern Oxygen.

His family will remember him as a loving father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family.

Mr. Holcombe was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Florence V. Holcombe.

Surviving Mr. Holcombe are five children: Lester Holcombe of Canton, Lydia Lee Harrell of Marion, Andrew Joseph Holcombe of Landover, MD, Richard Wayne Holcombe of Woodbridge, VA and Bonnie Joyce of Marion; one sister, Helen Coleman of Canton; fourteen grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at New Cruso Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2006 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home.

Interment will be in New Cruso Cemetery in Haywood County.
