Debra "Debbie" Lithamae Whitley Allen, 60 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center - Main in Charlotte.
Debbie was born February 13, 1955 in Stanly County to the late Nathanial Bradford Whitley and Doris Pauline Little Whitley of Red Cross. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, February 12, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The graveside service, officiated by Rev. Dwight Mabry, will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Smith's Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 138 in Oakboro. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.
In addition to her mother, Doris Little Whitley, she is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Robert Dale Allen of the home; son, Chad Allen of Harrisburg; brother, Ronnie Whitley and wife Jane; sisters, Aloma Whitley and Janet Whitley; seven nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews--all of whom loved their Aunt Debbie dearly.
Debbie worked at the State Employees Credit Union for almost 20 years. Over these years, she developed friendships that will carry on forever. Debbie proved to be a light for others on a daily basis, taking the time to let others know she was thinking of them. She was able to quietly uplift the lives of those around her and expected nothing in return. She had a smile that was contagious. Debbie was a devoted member of Philadelphia Baptist Church of Stanfield and was an active member of the Women's Bible Study Group. Debbie developed several close friendships and frequently went on trips to the mountains with the group. Each time, she would return with a smile and recount the adventures and wonderful time she had. Over the years, she has taught Sunday School to several generations of children. Debbie loved working with children and treated each one as her own. Debbie loved visiting with and helping her large family, spending time with and cooking with her mother, and walking her doggie - Bo. On occasion, Bo would have company when his "sisters" Gracey and Ava would come over to play. As a sincere and devoted lover of four-legged friends, Debbie thoroughly enjoyed the time she had with her doggies and could often be seen by neighbors walking them outside or at the local park. Debbie was also a gifted cake baker and decorator, providing beautiful and delicious cakes for many in the community. Debbie adored her son and his partner Brandon. When visiting Chad and Brandon, Debbie enjoyed walking with them around the yard looking at the beautiful flowers and the garden in the summertime. Debbie never came to visit empty-handed, always having some homemade goodies for "her boys". Debbie was a true giver--a giver of love, of peace, of humility and acceptance. Her family and friends will deeply miss her, but will take comfort in knowing that she has left behind a legacy of kindness, compassion and unconditional love.
As Debbie requested, memorials may be made to Friends of Stanly County Animal Rescue, 1803 Arborway, Albemarle, NC 28001.
