Annie Pearl Haman Howell, 87, died Oct. 24, 2008, at Southeastern Hospice House.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Ten Mile Baptist Church, the Rev. Michael Arnette officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery under the direction of Biggs Funeral Home.

Howell graduated from Lumberton High School in 1939 and from the Lily McLeod Business School. For 13 years, she was employed in local industry as a payroll clerk and bookkeeper. On Jan. 30, 1956, Howell joined the staff of First Baptist Church as education secretary. Later she served as pastor, church secretary, administrative assistant and retired on Sept. 30, 1986, as financial secretary.

She was a member of Ten Mile Baptist Church after her marriage on Nov. 22, 1950, to her late husband, James Alton Howell. She served as assistant treasurer for 21 years.

Howell was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are her two nieces, Betty Sherman of Spring Lake and Elaine Davis Smith of New Port Richey, Fla.; six nephews, Clarence Haman of Luray, Henry Haman of Luray Tenn., Clyde Davis Jr. of Jacksonville, William E. (Bill) Davis of Cameron, Robert E. Parker of Fayetteville, William F. Parker, Jr (Bill) of Spring Lake; several great-nieces; several great-nephews; and several cousins.
