Frances Elizabeth Collins Osborne

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Collins Osborne was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Atlanta GA., to Milton Luther and Rebecca Mahan Collins. Her marriage to Colin Porter Osborne, Jr. DDS lasted for 55 years until his death in 2000. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Milton Collins DDS.

She is survived by a twin sister, Ruth Hensley of Chattanooga, TN; a son, Colin P. Osborne III and wife Glenda of Lumberton; three daughters, Dr. Pamela and husband Richard Edwards of Fairhope, AL, Dr. Rebecca and husband Dr. Ronald Jackson of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Harris and husband Robert of Holly Springs. She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Christina Harris, Kenlind & Risha Jackson, Jesse & Mary Edwards and Blake & Clair Osborne. Her great-grandchildren are Kinsley Edwards, Carter Osborne and Alden Jackson. She also is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marguerite O. Morgan of Winston-Salem and Joyce H. Collins of Sautee-Nacoochie, GA. She had many nieces and nephews.

Loving wife, mother and grandmother, Fran, or as her grandchildren lovingly referred to her, Memom, devoted herself to family, church and community. A love of gardening, brought out in the beauty of flowers throughout the year, added color to her yard and the neighborhood. She shared this interest with friends and family, who inherited bulbs, seeds and cuttings from many of her flowers and shrubs. There was hardly a time during the year when she did not have fresh flowers in her home.

She attended West Georgia College, the University of Georgia and Pembroke Sate College (now UNCP), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. It was her love of children that guided her to pursue a teaching degree.

(Her funeral service was held on March 7, 2010 at 11am at First Baptist Church, Lumberton, officiated by Dr. David Elks and Dr. Wayne Tyner. Music was provied by Ms. Lee Harris and Rev. Tim Little. Pallbearers were: Alan Britt, Stokes Doster, Jesse Edwards, Kennith & Ron Jackson and Blake Osborne)
