Colin Porter Osborne, Jr., DDS

Born in Aberdeen, NC on Jan. 15, 1921. Died Nov. 2, 2000.

He was the son of Colin Porter Osborne, Sr. and Marguerite Brasington Osborne, both of who are deceased. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Collins Osborne; a son, Colin Porter Osborne, III and three daughters: Pamela Osborne Edwards of Point Clear AL., Rebecca Osborne Jackson of Decatur, GA., and Elizabeth Osborne Harris of Apex, NC. He had sever grandchildren: Jesse and Mary Edwards, Christina Harris, Kenlind and Risha Jackson, Blake and Clair Osborne. His sister and brother, Marguerite Osborne Morgan and Stephen Monroe Osborne, both of Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by a younger sister, Nancy Osborne Stebbins of Tega Cay SC.

Dr. Osborne attended Guilford College and received his DDS degree from Atlanta Southern Dental College in 1944. He then served in the US Navy in Portsmouth, VA from 1944-1946 as a dentist with the rank of Lieutenant J.G. Upon discharge from the Navy, he and his family moved to Fayetteville where he practiced for one year before moving to Lumberton. He was still in active practice until the time of his death.

During his lifetime, Dr. Osborne devoted himself to numerous civic and professional activities. He was a member of Fire Baptist Church of Lumberton since 1947 where he served as a deacon, choir member and member of the Men's Fellowship Class. He was a member of the men's quartet and sang regularly at Wesley Pines and the IHS Nursing Facilities. He served a term as secretary of the Robeson Baptist Association. He was a Mason in St. Albans Lodge #114, having completed the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. For his seniority and lengthy service in the Kiwanis, he received the Hixson Award.

Professionally, he was a member and past president of the NC Dental Society, member of the American Dental Association. Fellow in the American College of Dentistry and in the Academy of General Dentistry. He also served on the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. His was a life of dedicated service.

(Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 5, 2000 at 3pm at First Baptist Church, Lumberton officiated by Rev. Joe Bounds, Rev. Ron Sanders and Rev. Andy Wakefield. Music was provided by Mr. Tommy Wellington, Mrs. Dale McVicker and the Men's Quartet. Pallbearers were: Jesse & Rick Edwards, Bobby Harris, Kenlind & Ronnie Jackson and Blake Osborne)
