Joe attended school at Lona Valley in Haskell County, having left after 8th grade to help family with migrate farm work in Quinton, Ok, and both Springdale and Alma, Arkansas. He moved to Tulsa in 1948 and met the love of his life, Thelma Jean Hibbard in 1952, they were married on June 5, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan moved to California in 1956 then back to Tulsa in 1963 and finally to Owasso in 1972.
Joe served in the US Army Reserves from 1956 to 1962, achieving 1st Sargent. He owned and operated Morgan Construction Co. Joe served as deacon at both Faith Baptist Church and Southeast Baptist Church, taught Jr. Boys Sunday school class and worked the bus ministry. At Friendship Baptist Church, he served in the kitchen providing donuts and coffee. Joe was in charge of several remodeling programs at many of the churches he attended.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Sterling and Cora Morgan, brother James Morgan, sister Betty Morgan, and son Mark Morgan. He is survived by wife, Thelma Morgan of the home in Owasso, son Michael Morgan and wife Shelby of Haskell, son Steven Morgan and wife Stacey of Haskell, half siblings Delmar Fouts and wife Sylvia, Mildred Biggers and husband Gene, Thomas Fouts and wife Ivy, Eugene Fouts and wife Pat, grandchildren Amber and John Gaston, Levi and Jessie Morgan, Samuel and Brittany Morgan, Steven and Lucy Morgan, Suzanne and Eric Evans and Sandra and Jesse Thomason, great-grandchildren Ashley Gaston, Alexandra Gaston, Annaliese Gaston, Adeline Gaston, Amelia Gaston, Sadie Morgan, Ruby Morgan, Elizabeth Morgan, Joseph Morgan and Samuel Morgan.
Casket Bearers will include Sam Morgan, Steven Morgan, Levi Morgan, Ron Laster, Eric Evans and Jesse Thomason. Honorary casket bearer will be John Gaston.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 19 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso, Ok with Linzy Slayden and Loren McAlister officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 in the Liberty Cemetery, Morris, OK under the direction of Dowdy Funeral Home, Haskell, OK.
