GREENSBORO BURR YORK Hutchison, 92, of 725 Westland Dr., died Friday, January 8, 2016, at Moses Cone Hospital. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Hutchison was the husband of Lois Carter Hutchison. He was the son of the late Hilary York and Alice Mae Hutchison. Mr. Hutchison attended Ball School of Technology in Nashville, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1943 until 1946. He returned home to Elkin N.C., where he began a career in auto parts sales and later owner of stores in Elkin, Yadkinville, Jonesville, and Sparta. In 1974 he moved to Greensboro where he owned and operated additional auto parts stores. Mr. Hutchison was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Elkin, NC, and later First Baptist Church, Greensboro, where he served as deacon, president of Barnabas Sunday School Class, and member of various committees. He was past member of the NC Baptist General Board. Mr. Hutchison was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge 343. He was past president of the Blue Ridge Flying Club, past state secretary of Woodman of the World Insurance Company, and a volunteer of the Boy Scouts of America. Burr enjoyed world travel with his wife along with hosting foreign exchange college students in their home. He spent many hours flying family and friends in his Piper Cub. Music, gardening, and volunteering were among his favorite pastimes. Mr. Hutchison is survived by his wife, Lois Carter Hutchison, two daughters, Ann White (John) and Kay Carroll both of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Sarah Ivester (Shane) and Ashley Carroll of Greensboro; and one grandson, Cooper Ivester of Rural Hall; one brother, Wilmer Hutchison (Audrey) of Greensboro; two sisters, Rosa Adams of Hays and Leora Sidden of Traphill; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Elkin, NC. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Stephen Pressley. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27401. Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Street, Greensboro, is assisting the family.
