John R. Allen, 87, of Bee Branch, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Asheville V.A. Medical Center.
A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Tom and Cora Styles Allen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank Allen.
A World War II Air Force veteran, John was a former meat cutter at Ray Brothers Grocery in Burnsville, and retired from Hickey's Super Market in Spruce Pine.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Williams Allen; son, William Ray Allen and wife, Susan; daughter, Tonya Ray and husband, Danny; two granddaughters, Whitney and Summer Ray, all of Burnsville; and brother, Jess Allen, of Andrews.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Low Gap Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Stanley McMahan and Junior Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in Ray Cemetery on Bee Branch.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
