Mr. Norman Abernethy, 76, of Cartersville, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his residence. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 16, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond Abernethy and the late Margaret Sakel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Abernethy.

Mr. Abernethy was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses of Cartersville where he served as a Ministerial Servant. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, a practical, loyal, calm mannered, wise and intelligent man. He was very organized and loved research. He was a sports fan, and had the privilege to serve as the bat boy for The Cleveland Indians in 1949.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Abernethy of Cartersville; his daughters, Dee Dee Potter (Larry) of Montgomery, Texas and Tessa Webb (Paul) of Cartersville; his son, Norman Abernethy of Michigan; his sisters, Tara Hands of Smyrna and Karen Hundley (Jack) of South Bend, Indiana; his niece, Jennifer Parker of Boston; two nephews; his step-sons, Tony Hardin of Cartersville, Greg Hardin of White, and Richard Hardin of Rockmart; one grandson, Tyson Andrews; ten step-grandchildren; and his dog, Lilly.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness of Cartersville with Elder Tom Oren officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Friday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Road, Cartersville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Watchtower Bible & Track Society of NY, Inc., 25 Columbia Hts., Brooklyn, New York 11201 in memory of Mr. Abernethy.
