NASCAR Driver. Panch was a race car driver on the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Racing) circuit during the 1950s and 1960s and was the winner of the 1961 Daytona 500. He started his racing career as a car owner in Oakland, California during the early 1950s and won one championship and several NASCAR races on the West Coast during the early stage of his career. In 1954 Panch was convinced to come east by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and would go on to win 17 races and have 126 top ten finishes during his racing career. His most memorable win was the 1961 Daytona 500 which greatly helped his career. Panch retired from NASCAR racing in October of 1966. He was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998 and inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame in 1987, and the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame in its first class in 2002.
