Roy Lee Adams was a native of Alachua County. He married Estelle Beal and they had one son, James R. (Bud). Roy came to Perry from Gainesville, Florida in 1919. He had been Cashier for American Railway Express in Gainesville and he was Agent for the same company in Perry until the time of his death in 1953. He took an active interest in the things that would make Perry a better place to live. He served as City Councilman, and for many years was Mayor. He also gave unselfishly of his time as a Member of the Rationing Board during World War II, and after that he was a Member of Selective Service Board for this District. He left a good imprint upon the history of Perry. - They Were Here Issue #1, published by Taylor County Historical Society
