Samuel Bailey Dies in Seventy Third Year
Former Engineer at Rogers High; Was Descendant of Old R.I. Families
Samuel Cahoone Bailey, a former engineer at Rogers High School, an amateur yachtsman, and a descendant of one of the old Rhode Island families, died last Friday at his home, 75 John Street. He was in his seventy-third year.
Mr. Bailey was born in Middletown, a son of the late John Cahoone and Hannah F. (Barker) Bailey. On his father's side, he was a descendant of the Clarke, Townsend, Cahoone and Allen Families and a great, great grandson of Captain Joseph Allen of Revolutionary fame. He was a grandson of Captain Samuel Cahoone Bailey and of Job Townsend. On his mother's side, he was descended from the Barker and Sherman Families.
He was a member of the Eureka Lodge of Masons and the Newport and East Greenwich Yacht Clubs.
Mr. Bailey leaves his wife, Mrs. Caroline Palmer Bailey, who is a great, great grand daughter of Governor Caleb Carr, and a daughter Mrs. Beatrice Bailey Carr.
Funeral services were held at his late home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. S. Eugene Snoxell, assistant minister of Trinity Church, officiating.
