Andrew Martin was born in Lorraine France and spent his earliest childhood in the village of Waltembourg. His parents were Joseph and Barbara (Bechler) Martin who were Amish Mennonite. The mother died and the father removed the family to Lewis county New York arriving in the Port of New York City In January 1847. He married Sophia Steiner and they had a family of ten children. They moved to Newton County Missouri in November 1874 with a group from New York who established a new Apostolic Christian church at Park, Mo. Most all of the group were formerly members of the Amish or Mennonite churches. Andrew farmed and was in partnership with his father-in-law Jacob Steiner in a mill business. Andrew died of pneumonia. He was buried in an unmarked grave that was reportedly marked by his son Ben Martin years later...but no marker now exists. His widow remarried to Fred Frederick in 1889 and removed to Oklahoma
