Roman Catholic Cardinal. Ivrea born Giuseppe Fietta was ordained priest on November 4, 1906. Secretary to the bishop of Alghero, Oristano and Cagliari between 1907 and 1923, he was named rector of the seminary of Alghero and canon of its cathedral chapter before being appointed secretary and successively chargé d'affaires of the apostolic nunciature in Costa Rica by the Holy See in 1924. Pope Pius XI elected him archbishop of the titular see of Sardica on March 30, 1926 and appointed him internuncio in Central America with Fietta receiving his episcopal consecration on the following October 10 at the basilica of Sacro Cuore a Castro Pretorio in Rome from Cardinal Giovanni Bonzano. Named nuncio in Central America on July 8, 1926, in Haiti and the Dominican Republic on October 18, 1930, in Argentina on August 8, 1936 and in Italy on January 26, 1953, Pope John XXIII created him cardinal priest in the consistory of December 15, 1958 with the title of San Paolo alla Regola, receiving his red biretta from Giovanni Gronchi, President of Italy, at the Quirinal Palace in Rome. Passing away at his native Ivrea, his remains lie buried inside the local cathedral.
