Dorothy Mae Abbott

SHREVEPORT, LA - Dorothy Abbott, 94 went to be with God on November 19, 2015. She was born September 9, 1921 in Clarksville, TX. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 E. Bert Kouns, Shreveport, LA 71106. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. Chuck McInturf. Visitation will be held at the Church on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Years later her family moved to Chidester, AR where she met and married Forest Abbott. They later moved to Shreveport, built their home and had three daughters. When her children were teenagers she decided to attend school and fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She truly enjoyed her profession until her retirement. Her church and church members were a big part of her life until her health no longer allowed her to attend.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Abbott, parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.C. Carroll, brother, Bob Carroll, sisters, Vila Purifoy and Margaret Pickett. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Humphries and husband, Maylon, Barbara Festervand, and Louise Burton and husband, James; grandchildren, Stefani Farris, Steven Humphries, Mark Festervand, Teresa Festervand, Jeff Burton, Melanie Greer; 8 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley Carroll, sisters, Mary Creech, Myrtle Pratt, and Gracie Magill, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers will be Steven Humphries, Forrest Humphries, Skylar Blythe, Kenney Farris, Rob Greer, Joe Wayne Carroll, and Ronnie Carroll.

The family would like to say a special thanks to all the caregivers who have loved our mother over the years, especially Connie Owers and Linda Huckabee.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to Woodridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 850 E. Bert Kouns Ind. Loop, Shreveport, LA 71106.
