Our beloved daughter and sister, Athena Marie, has chosen to leave us to be with the Lord. Athena was an active and loving person who enjoyed helping people in every way, she was a camp counselor at Camp Y-Noah, helped rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity, helped rebuild New Orleans after Katrina and served her country in the National Guard including being deployed to Kuwait for 10 months. During the last months of her life she was doing what came naturally to her and what she loved doing, serving people who were not as fortunate as herself.
Athena was a 2008 graduate of Jackson High School and some of the happiest times of her life were spent playing and marching with the Jackson High School band. While attending the University of Akron school of engineering she played and marched in the university band. Her love of music was a central theme of her life and playing piano, clarinet, guitar and drums was a great joy. Athena joined the Navy Sea Cadets while in high school and continued her military service while in college. She was attached to the Ohio National Guard Company A, 237th BSB from Cleveland, Ohio, and was deployed to Kuwait from June 2013 to March 2014 with the Ohio National Guard 371st Sustainment Brigade out of Springfield Ohio. Athena was a proud American and loved serving her country in the National Guard.
Athena was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Frank O. Hill and George H. Curley.
She is survived by her parents; sisters; grandmothers, Athena Curley and Donna Hill; aunts and uncles; cousins and many other family and friends all over the world. All of our memories of Athena are wonderful and the 25 years we had to love her were a blessing that we will cherish forever. Her departure leaves a hole in our hearts that will never completely heal but we can hope and pray that her beautiful soul is finally at peace.
