TULIA - John D. Powers, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Rains officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Mr. Powers was born July 14, 1932, in Wanette, Okla., and grew up in Shawnee, Okla.

He served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge, he worked for 5 Cement Co., Keebler Cookie Co. and for 16 years with AAA as road service manager.

He married Phyllis Robie on March 4, 1977.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Powers; a great-grandson, Kevin Powers of Tulia; three daughters, Rosemary Reynolds of Shawnee, Cheryl Vaughn of Tulia and Janice Griffin of Gruver; three sons, Robert Powers and Michael Robie, both of Amarillo, and Wayne Robie of Roeland Park, Kan.; three brothers, Glenn Powers of Noble, Okla., Jack Powers of Shawnee and Joe Powers of Amarillo; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Kevin Powers Scholarship Fund in memory of John D. Powers, First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, TX 79088.
