Funeral services for Evelyn Ann Fox, 87, Spearfish, SD, formerly of Aberdeen, are 10:30 am Monday, August 28, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, Warner with Pastor Joanne K. Nagele officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen. Evelyn quietly passed away on Thursday, August 24, at Dorrset Nursing Home, Spearfish, where she had been residing since May of this year.

Evelyn Ann Rieck was born on a farm west of Warner on October 5, 1918 to Chris and Anna (Brick) Rieck. She attended rural grade schools and graduated from Mina High School. After receiving her teaching certificate from Northern Normal she taught school in the rural Mansfield area for a few years. During World War II, Evelyn worked as a civilian in an Army parts supply depot in Tacoma Washington.

In 1948 Evelyn married Everett Fox in Aberdeen. They had two sons. During the mid 1960's she worked for the Aberdeen American News as a proof reader. At age 51 she completed LPN nursing school in Mitchell SD and was employed as a nurse until her reluctant retirement at age 77. Evelyn worked in the hospitals in Bowdle and Gettysburg and then in the Aberdeen area working with individuals in their homes.

Evelyn was a lifetime member of the Warner American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and gardening. Evelyn loved watching hummingbirds and collected figures of them. Rides in the country brought her much joy, but her greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren and family.

Grateful for having shared Evelyn's life are her oldest son David Fox of Indianapolis IN, her son and daughter-in-law James and Brenda Fox and her two grandsons Samuel and Nathan Fox of Belle Fourche SD, brother Harley (Jean) Rieck of Warner SD, sisters Mavis (Melvin) Eske and Joyce (Doug) Rogers all of Aberdeen.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mildred Rieck, and three older brothers, Ervin Rieck, Raymond Rieck, and Lester "Butch" Rieck.

Arrangements by Spitzer Funeral Home, 320 6th Ave. SE, Aberdeen.
