Family Memories shared with permission by Gloria Quiroz, granddaughter of Lydia and daughter of Helen:

Lydia Shannon met John Weismiller at the World's Fair in Chicago. Lydia and her girlfriend had traveled from Pennsylvania to Chicago to work as waitresses. When the fair was over, John and Lydia moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their first three children were born there. When Lydia was expecting her next child, she wrote to her sister, Ellen and asked her to help. Ellen moved in with her sister and John and the kids to help when John Weismiller was born. Later they moved to Fresno, California and worked a farm which was her husband, John's dream. However, on the way, Lydia had to stop in Kansas where she gave birth to Helen. The farming wasn't ideal, so Lydia rented a big house and then rented out half of it to another family. Her husband, John, worked as a night watchman. Their last child, Marie was born in Fresno. Later they moved up the coast to San Francisco and lived on Oak Street and then finally to the homestead located in Humboldt County in Eureka, California which was even farther North.

(Note: The Chicago World's Fair began in May 1893 and closed in October 1893.)
